Kangure Institute for the disabled was started in 2011 in Klipriver in Gauteng. The organization aims to give a quality life to disabled children and provide training and counseling to professional working with the disabled.
In 2018 they started a pre-school for disabled children. Normal class room activities form part of the daily program in these pre-schools. After identifying a need, they opened the school for able bodied children in the community as well.
The Kangure Institute is a symbol of a well managed organization that aims to address an important need within South Africa. Although some of the children have families that are involved, about 65% of the children living here has been abandoned. Even though the organization receive some government funding, There is still a huge shortfall in the care that a disabled child requires. The organization rely on corporate and private donations.
In addition to the pre-school the institute has a residential center that houses and care for older children that are not school ready, but need stimulation and sensory integration and mobilization.
These children have potential to be semi independent and be creative.
The current project
Currently the pre-school and the pre-vocational group is in the same building and as both divisions are growing the need has arisen for additional class rooms.
The center is in need of building materials and fixtures and fittings.
In addition they have a vegetable garden tunnel but need a sprinkler system, seeds and gardening soil.
